How to Start and Stop Recording a Zoom Meeting

Tap each step to follow along in order.

  1. Click "Record" in the meeting toolbar

While a meeting is underway, click the "Record" button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Choose "Record on this Computer" or "Record to the Cloud"

Depending on your account settings, you can choose to save the recording locally or to the cloud.

  3. Check the recording indicator

A red dot and a "Recording" label appear in the top left of the screen, and you can pause or stop the recording whenever you need to.

  4. The file converts and saves automatically after the meeting

Once the meeting ends, the recording is automatically converted and saved to whichever location you chose, whether that is your computer or the cloud.

  5. Why this is useful

Recording is handy for sharing a meeting's content with people who could not attend, or for keeping a record of an important discussion you may need to revisit later.

Want a record of what was discussed?

Recording a meeting makes it easy to share what was discussed with people who could not attend, or to keep a record of an important conversation you might need to look back on later.

Local recording vs. cloud recording: which to pick

Local recording needs free space on your own computer but works right away without any extra plan. Cloud recording removes storage worries and makes sharing a link easy, though it typically requires a paid plan or enough cloud storage on your account. Choose based on what you are recording and what your account supports.

By default, only the host can record. The host needs to enable "Allow participants to record" before anyone else can start their own recording.

Will other participants know the meeting is being recorded?
