How to Center Content Vertically on a Word Page

Tap through each step in order.

  1. Select the page you want centered

    Place your cursor anywhere on the page you want vertically centered, such as a title page.

  2. Open the Page Setup dialog from the Layout tab

    Click the small arrow in the bottom-right corner of the "Layout" tab's Page Setup group to open the dialog.

  3. Switch to the Layout tab in the dialog

    Inside the dialog, click the "Layout" tab.

  4. Set Vertical Alignment to Center

    Under "Page," open the "Vertical alignment" dropdown, choose "Center," and click OK.

  5. Why it is worth using

    When short content like a title page or a quote looks stuck at the top of the page, vertical centering automatically balances the space above and below for a far more polished look.

A short cover page or a single quotation can look unbalanced if it sits at the top of an otherwise blank page. Vertical centering evens out the top and bottom margins automatically, so the content sits right in the middle of the page.

The Page Setup dialog has an "Apply to" dropdown near the bottom. Leaving it on "Whole document" centers every page, while choosing "This section" centers only the section your cursor is currently in β€” the setting to use if you only want one page, like a cover page, centered.

Can I apply this to just one page instead of the whole document?

Yes β€” insert a section break after the page you want centered, place your cursor in that section, and set "Apply to" to "This section" in the dialog so the rest of the document is unaffected.
