  1. Turn on formatting marks

In the Home tab, click the ΒΆ icon to display formatting marks like page breaks and blank paragraphs.

  2. Click anywhere on the page you want to delete

Click inside the page you want to remove to place your cursor there.

  3. Select all the content on that page

Press Ctrl+Shift+End to select everything from your cursor to the end of the page, or drag to select manually.

  4. Delete the content and remove the leftover page break

Press Delete to remove the content, then also delete any remaining page break mark.

  5. Why this helps

It lets you precisely remove a stubborn blank page at the end of a document or leftover content, keeping your document clean.

That stubborn blank page at the end of your document

If you've been frustrated by a blank page that won't go away no matter how many times you press Delete, turning on formatting marks lets you find the actual page break causing it and remove it directly.

Why a blank page often appears after a table

Word always requires at least one paragraph mark after a table, so if a table sits at the very bottom of a page, that trailing empty line can get pushed onto the next page and show up as a blank page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does turning formatting marks on and off affect my document's content?

No. Formatting marks are just an on-screen display aid β€” they don't affect what actually prints or gets saved in the document.

Why won't the blank page after a table go away?

Word requires at least one paragraph line after every table, so if the table ends near the bottom of a page, that required blank line spills onto the next page and appears as an empty page.
