How to Organize the Windows Taskbar

Pin and unpin icons

Right-click a program you use often and choose 'Pin to taskbar,' or right-click one you don't need and choose 'Unpin from taskbar.'

Reorder pinned icons

Drag a pinned icon left or right to rearrange the icons in whatever order you prefer.

Clean up system tray icons

In taskbar settings, choose which icons appear in the notification area so icons you never check stay out of view.

Turn on taskbar auto-hide

Turn on 'Automatically hide the taskbar' in settings so it only appears when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, freeing up screen space the rest of the time.
