How to Turn On Remote Desktop in Windows

Turn it on once on the host PC, then connect from anywhere on the same network or over the internet.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop

    On the computer you want to allow others to connect to (the host), open the Settings app and go to System > Remote Desktop.

  2. Turn on the "Remote Desktop" switch

    Flipping this switch on makes this computer reachable for incoming remote connections.

  3. Note this PC's name

    Make a note of the "PC name" shown on the same screen β€” you will need it to connect later.

  4. Connect from another PC using "Remote Desktop Connection"

    On another Windows computer, open the Remote Desktop Connection app, then enter the PC name and account credentials you noted down to connect.
