How to Mute Keywords on X (Twitter)

When a word, topic, or spoiler keeps showing up in your timeline, muting it quietly filters out any post containing that word β€” without blocking the account that posted it.

  1. Open "Settings and privacy"

    From the "More" menu in the sidebar, select "Settings and privacy" to access your account controls.

  2. Go to "Privacy and safety" then "Mute and block"

    Inside the privacy settings, tap "Mute and block" to find the muted-words options.

  3. Tap "Muted words"

    Open the "Muted words" section and tap the "+" button to add a new entry.

  4. Enter the word and set where it applies

    Type the word or hashtag you want hidden, then choose whether it applies to your home timeline, notifications, or both, and for how long.

Getting the Filter Right

For thorough filtering, add common variations of a word or hashtag (with and without a hashtag symbol, singular and plural, common misspellings), and set a short duration like 24 hours when you are only avoiding spoilers until you catch up on a show or event.
