Sudoku Rules
- Fill the 9x9 grid with numbers from 1 to 9.
- Each of the 9 cells in a row must contain 1-9 exactly once.
- Each of the 9 cells in a column must contain 1-9 exactly once.
- Each of the 3x3 boxes marked off by bold lines must also contain 1-9 exactly once.
Origins of Sudoku
The name "Sudoku" comes from the Japanese for "single number," but the underlying logic puzzle traces back to the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler's work on "Latin squares." It was popularized in its modern form in Japan in the 1980s, and by the 2000s it had spread to newspapers and puzzle magazines worldwide.
