Open the recent apps screen, press and hold an app's icon, and choose 'Split screen' to run two apps side by side at once.

iPad

Drag an app from the Dock to the edge of the screen to bring up Slide Over or Split View alongside the app you already have open.

Adjust the split ratio

Drag the divider between the two apps left or right to change how much space each one takes up.
