How to Set Reminders in Slack with /remind

Tap each step to follow along in order.

  1. Type '/remind' in the message box

In any channel or direct message, typing a command in the format '/remind [who] [what] [when]' creates a reminder.

  2. Remind yourself

For example, typing '/remind me to submit the report at 3pm' sends a reminder just to you at the time you specified.

  3. Remind an entire channel

Putting a channel name in place of 'who' (e.g. '/remind #marketing to prep for the meeting at 9am tomorrow') shows the reminder to everyone in that channel.

  4. Phrase the time naturally

You can enter the time in natural phrases like 'in 20 minutes' or 'every Monday at 9am,' so you don't need to know an exact date format.

  5. Set up a repeating reminder

Adding a repeating phrase like 'every day' or 'every Friday' to the end of the command means you only have to set it up once to keep getting reminders on that schedule.

  6. Check and delete reminders with '/remind list'

Typing '/remind list' shows every reminder you currently have set, with buttons next to each one to mark it done or delete it.

  7. Why is it useful?

You can add a task or reminder right from the Slack conversation you're already in, without opening a separate calendar app β€” so your workflow never gets interrupted.

You Can Also Turn Any Message Into a Reminder

Besides typing '/remind' directly, hovering over any message and choosing 'Remind me about this' from the three-dot menu turns that exact message into a reminder that resurfaces later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set a reminder on behalf of someone else?

Currently reminders can only be set for yourself or a channel β€” there's no way to assign a reminder directly to another individual person.

Can I edit a reminder I typed incorrectly?

There's no edit option, so the simplest fix is to check your reminders with '/remind list,' delete the wrong one, and create a new one.
