What is a reaction time test?
This test measures, in milliseconds (ms), how long it takes you to perceive a visual cue β the screen changing color β and respond by clicking. It gives an indirect look at the speed of the whole chain: your eyes taking in the stimulus, your brain processing it, and your hand carrying out the command.
What's an average reaction time?
The average human reaction time to a visual stimulus is generally around 200-250 milliseconds. Anything faster than 200ms is quite fast, and anything over 300ms is slower than average. Individual results can vary a lot depending on age, fatigue, and focus.
Tips for a more accurate measurement
- Averaging several attempts gives a more accurate picture than any single result.
- Clicking too early (before the color changes) is invalid, so wait until it actually turns green.
- Your input device β mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen β can also cause small differences in your recorded time.
