How to Pin a Chat to the Top of Your Chat List

Tap through each step to see how to keep a chat fixed at the top of your list.

  1. Open your chat list

    Go to the main tab that lists all your conversations.

  2. Long-press or swipe the chat you want to pin

    Long-press the conversation, or swipe it slightly, to bring up its options menu.

  3. Select "Pin"

    Choose "Pin" (or "Pin to top") from the menu, and the chat jumps to the top of your list.

  4. Unpin it the same way, when you are done

    Repeat the same steps and choose "Unpin" to send it back to its normal, date-sorted position.

  5. Check how many chats you can pin at once

    Most apps cap the number of chats you can pin at the same time, so it is worth reserving it for conversations you actually check daily.

Stop scrolling to find the chats you use every day

A group chat with family or a coworker you message constantly is easy to lose in a long, fast-moving list. Pinning it keeps it fixed at the top regardless of how many other new messages come in.

This is different from pinning a single message inside a chat

Pinning a chat keeps the whole conversation fixed at the top of your chat list; pinning a message is a separate feature inside an individual chat that keeps one specific message (like a meeting time) visible near the top of that conversation for everyone in it.

Does a pinned chat move if I get a new message in it?
