This isn't a new-account process β€” it's the same account with a new phone number swapped in. Group memberships, chat history stored on your device, and your profile all remain exactly as they were.

Let your contacts know ahead of time if you can

WhatsApp does notify some of your contacts about the number change automatically, but it's still worth telling close contacts directly beforehand, especially if you're also changing your saved display name or want to avoid any confusion during the transition.
