How to Delete Your WhatsApp Account

  1. Open Settings and go to Account

    Tap Settings, then Account.

  2. Tap "Delete my account"

    Scroll to the bottom of the Account screen and select "Delete my account."

  3. Enter your phone number to confirm

    Type your full phone number to verify you're the account owner, then tap Delete My Account.

  4. Review what gets erased

    Message history, media, and account information are removed; messages you already sent in group chats generally remain visible to other members unless removed separately.

  5. What to check before deleting

    Back up any chat history or media you want to keep first, since deletion cannot be undone and any linked cloud backup should be removed separately if you no longer want it stored.

This is different from just uninstalling the app

Removing the app from your phone leaves your account and message history intact on the server; only "Delete my account" from inside the app actually erases the account and unlinks your phone number.

What happens to groups you were part of

You're automatically removed from every group you belonged to, but messages you sent before deleting typically stay visible in those group chat histories, since deletion removes your account, not messages already delivered to other people.

No -- deletion is permanent, and signing up again with the same phone number creates a brand-new account with no access to the old history.
