How to Add Markup (Drawing/Text) to Photos on iPhone

Tap each step to follow along in order.

  1. Open a photo and tap 'Edit'

    Open the photo you want to mark up in the Photos app, then tap 'Edit' in the top-right corner.

  2. Open the Markup tool

    Tap the three-dot (β€’β€’β€’) icon in the top-right of the editing screen, then choose 'Markup.'

  3. Draw with pen, highlighter, and pencil

    Pick a tool from the toolbar at the bottom β€” pen, pencil, highlighter, or eraser β€” to draw directly on the photo, and adjust color and line thickness for each.

  4. Add text and shapes

    Tap the + button to add a text box, rectangle, circle, arrow, or other shape on top of the photo.

  5. Add a signature

    Choose 'Signature' from the + menu to insert a signature you draw with your finger, or reuse one you've saved before.

  6. Save or share right away

    Tap 'Done' to save the marked-up photo. You can also tap the share button to send it straight away by message or email.
