How to Manage and Free Up Your iCloud Storage

If iCloud keeps warning you that storage is full, a quick cleanup usually clears more space than you would expect.

  1. Check your current storage usage

    Tap your Apple ID at the top of Settings, then go to iCloud > Manage Storage to see how much space each category is using at a glance.

  2. Find out what is taking up the most space

    Photos, device backups, and Messages are shown as a color-coded breakdown; tap any item in the list to see its exact size.

  3. Delete backups from devices you no longer use

    Select the backup for an old or replaced device and choose "Delete Backup" to free that space immediately.

  4. Clean up your photo library

    Removing duplicate or unwanted photos and videos, and then fully emptying "Recently Deleted," reduces your iCloud usage as well as your device storage.

  5. Clear out data from apps you no longer use

    In the storage management list, find apps you have stopped using and delete the iCloud data they have stored.

  6. Change your storage plan if needed

    If you are consistently running low, "Change Storage Plan" lets you upgrade to more space, and you can downgrade later once you have more room to spare.
