GPA Calculator (4.5 Scale)

Enter the credits and grade for each course to calculate your grade point average on a 4.5-point scale.

Which grading scale does this use?

Grading scales vary a lot by country and even by school. This calculator uses the4.5-point, 9-tier scale (A+/A0/B+/B0/C+/C0/D+/D0/F) that many Korean universities use, where A+ = 4.5 points and each step down (A0, B+, B0, ...) drops by 0.5, down to F = 0 points. Here, "A0" simply means a plain A (as opposed to A+). Many U.S. universities, by contrast, commonly use a 4.0-point scale β€” so if your school uses a different scale, use this as a general reference rather than an exact match.

How is it calculated?

Grade point average (GPA) is calculated as the sum of (grade points Γ— credits) for each course, divided by the total credits. Courses worth more credits have a bigger impact on your overall GPA.

A note of caution

Grading scales (a 4.3 scale, whether an A- grade exists, etc.) vary by school and country, so this calculator's 4.5-point, 9-tier scale (with no A-/B- grades) may not match your school's exact method. Check your school's official records system for your official GPA. Pass/Fail courses are typically excluded from GPA calculations, so we'd recommend leaving them out here too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I handle a retaken course?

Most schools have their own policy for retaken courses β€” some replace the old grade with the new one, others average the two. We'd recommend entering only the single grade that will actually count toward your official GPA, per your school's policy.

Is the percentage equivalent accurate?

The percentage equivalent is a simple proportional conversion (GPA Γ· 4.5 Γ— 100) treating 4.5 as 100 points, and is only a reference β€” it may differ from your school's official conversion table. Check your school's official conversion for an accurate percentage.
