How to Link Google Forms Responses to a Spreadsheet

Tap through each step to see exactly how to link a Google Form to a spreadsheet.

  1. Open the Responses tab

Go to the "Responses" tab at the top of your form's edit screen.

  2. Click the spreadsheet icon

Click the green spreadsheet-shaped icon in the upper right of the Responses tab.

  3. Create or select a sheet

Choose to create a new spreadsheet or link to an existing one, then click "Create."

  4. Confirm responses sync automatically

From then on, each new submission automatically adds a new row to the linked sheet.

Stop copying responses by hand

Instead of checking each response one by one and copying it into a table yourself, letting them collect automatically in a spreadsheet lets you jump straight into sorting, filtering, and analyzing the data with formulas.

Unlinking does not delete what is already there

If you unlink the sheet, the data already collected stays exactly as it is β€” only new responses stop being added automatically. If you link to an existing spreadsheet, several forms can also feed into it as separate tabs, keeping related responses organized in one file.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to the data already collected if I unlink the sheet?

The data already in the sheet stays exactly as it is β€” unlinking only stops new responses from being added automatically.

Can multiple forms feed into the same spreadsheet?

Yes, if you choose an existing spreadsheet when linking, each form adds its own new tab, so several forms can be organized together in one file.
