How to Snooze an Email in Gmail

Some emails don't need a reply right now, but you can't just ignore them either β€” they need to resurface at the right moment. Snooze clears them out of your inbox temporarily and brings them right back when the timing is better.

  1. Hover over an email in your inbox

Hover your mouse over the email you want to snooze, and a row of icons appears on the right.

  2. Click the clock-shaped snooze icon

Among the icons that appear, click the clock-shaped "Snooze" icon.

  3. Choose when it should come back

Pick from suggested options like "Tomorrow," "This weekend," or "Next week," or set a custom date and time.

  4. It reappears at the top of your inbox at the chosen time

The email moves to the "Snoozed" folder in the meantime, and jumps back to the top of your inbox once the scheduled time arrives.

  5. Why this is worth using

For emails you can't deal with right now but need to remember later, snoozing clears them out of sight temporarily and reminds you at exactly the right moment.

A better way to handle "I'll deal with this later"

Leaving a message sitting in your inbox as a mental to-do item just adds visual noise without actually reminding you at a useful time. Snoozing it to reappear on the morning you can actually act on it turns a vague intention into a concrete, well-timed reminder.

Snooze works on mobile too

The same feature is available in the Gmail mobile app β€” swipe an email partway or open its menu, and you'll find the same snooze options as on desktop, so the habit carries over wherever you check email.
