How to Reorder Worksheet Tabs in Excel

Tap through each step to reorder your worksheet tabs.

  1. Click and hold the sheet tab you want to move

Click the tab of the sheet you want to reorder and keep the mouse button held down.

  2. Drag it to the position you want

While holding the mouse button, drag toward the position you want — a small black arrow shows exactly where it will land.

  3. Release the mouse button

Release the mouse button at the position you want, and the sheet order changes immediately.

  4. Or use the right-click menu

Right-click a tab and choose "Move or Copy" to move it to a specific position from a list.

  5. Why it is useful

Moving frequently used sheets toward the front means you no longer need to click through several tabs every time to find them.

Put your most-used sheets up front

If a workbook with many sheets means clicking through several tabs every time just to reach the one you use most, a single drag to reorder tabs lets you place it right at the front where it is always one click away.

Moving multiple sheets at once

Hold Ctrl while clicking to select several sheet tabs at the same time, then drag any of the selected tabs — all of the selected sheets move together to the new position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does reordering sheets affect any formulas?

No — sheet order is purely about tab arrangement and has no effect on the sheet names or values that your formulas reference.
