How to Translate a Web Page in Chrome

Chrome can translate an entire foreign-language page in a couple of clicks, right in the address bar -- no separate translator tab needed.

  1. Open a page in a language you don't read

    Navigate to a website written in a language other than the one you read comfortably.

  2. Click the translate icon in the address bar

    Chrome usually detects the language automatically and shows a small translate icon on the right side of the address bar. If it doesn't appear, right-click anywhere on the page and choose "Translate to [your language]."

  3. Check or change the target language

    In the popup, confirm the detected source language and the language you want the page translated into, adjusting either if Chrome guessed wrong.

  4. Read the translated page

    Click "Translate" and the entire page reloads in your chosen language. Click "Show original" any time to switch back.

  5. Why it's useful

    For foreign news sites or overseas shops, this lets you get the gist of a page instantly inside the browser itself, without opening a separate translation tool and copying text back and forth.

How accurate is a full-page translation?

It's machine translation, so subtle nuance and tone won't always come through perfectly, but it's more than accurate enough for getting the gist of a news article or product page. For contracts or other text where precision really matters, a dedicated tool like DeepL is a safer choice.

On Android and iOS, Chrome offers the same translation option through a bar that appears automatically or through the menu, so the workflow isn't limited to desktop browsing.
