How to Check Your Battery Health

Tap your device to see how to check its battery health.

iPhone

In Settings, go to Battery β†’ Battery Health & Charging to see your maximum capacity percentage and whether peak performance capability is still supported.

Android

Depending on the device, you can check battery usage and condition either in Settings β†’ Battery, or through the manufacturer's own device-care app.

Windows

Running the battery report command in Command Prompt generates a detailed report comparing your battery's current maximum capacity against its original design capacity.

Mac

Click the battery icon in the menu bar, or open System Settings β†’ Battery, to see your battery's condition (Normal or Service Recommended).

When to replace your battery

If maximum capacity drops to around 80% or below, or your device starts shutting down unexpectedly, it is generally a good time to consider a battery replacement.

A battery is a consumable part

Every battery gradually loses maximum capacity as it goes through charge and discharge cycles. Checking its condition periodically helps you plan ahead for a device or battery replacement instead of being caught off guard.

Good charging habits help it last longer

Repeatedly running a battery all the way to empty or keeping it at 100% for long stretches accelerates wear. Keeping the charge level roughly between 20% and 80% where possible, and avoiding extreme heat or cold, is widely considered good practice for long-term battery health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to extend a battery's lifespan?

Generally, keeping the charge level between roughly 20% and 80% rather than constantly fully draining or fully charging it, and avoiding extreme temperatures, are considered the best habits.

Where can I get my battery replaced?

A manufacturer-authorized service center is the safest option. If you use a third-party repair shop, it is worth confirming they use a genuine or high-quality replacement battery.
