How to Add a Widget to Your Android Home Screen

Tap through each step in order to add a widget.

  1. Long-press an empty spot on the home screen

Press and hold a blank area of your home screen until an edit menu appears.

  2. Tap 'Widgets'

From the menu that appears, tap 'Widgets' to see a list of widgets from your installed apps.

  3. Pick the widget and size you want

Find a widget β€” weather, calendar, notes, and more β€” and choose the size that fits.

  4. Place it on your home screen

Drag the widget you chose to wherever you want it, then let go to drop it in place.

  5. Resize or remove it

Long-press the widget and drag its edges to resize it, or tap 'Remove' to take it off the home screen.

See what you need without opening the app

Placing widgets like weather, a calendar, or notes right on your home screen lets you glance at the information you need without opening the app at all, which adds up to real convenience over a day of phone use.

A cluttered layout is easy to fix later

Widgets and app icons can always be rearranged later, so it's fine to experiment freely with placement and sizes until the layout feels right β€” nothing here is permanent.
