How to Recover Missed Notifications with Android Notification History

Tap a step to see how it works.

  1. Open Notifications in Settings

In the Settings app, select "Notifications."

  2. Find the Notification History menu

Scroll down the notification settings screen and select "Notification history."

  3. Turn on notification history

Switch on "Use notification history," and from this point on, notifications you dismiss or miss start getting recorded.

  4. View past notifications

The notification history screen groups today's and yesterday's notifications by app, so you can find one you accidentally swiped away.

  5. Note manufacturer naming differences

On some devices, like Samsung Galaxy phones, the same feature may appear under a different name or in a different menu location.

  6. Why it's useful

You can go back and check a notification you swiped away too quickly or missed entirely, cutting down on the chance of missing something important.

For when you accidentally swipe away a notification

If you've ever swiped away a screen in a hurry and accidentally dismissed an important message along with it, turning on notification history gives you a safety net to go back and check anything you missed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see notifications I dismissed before turning this on?

No β€” notification history only starts collecting from the moment you turn the feature on, so notifications dismissed earlier can't be recovered retroactively.

Does sensitive content stay visible in the history too?

Yes β€” whatever text appeared in the original notification is stored as-is, so if you share the device with someone else, it's worth also checking your lock screen security settings.
